I couldn't find a word that would be this describing.Bruno is a nine year old boy with a surprisingly open eye for feelings and empathy.Boyne is telling the story from the perspective of a child who can't grasp the magnitude of what he is witnessing. As would no child who has been brought up having to fear for nothing, who's only complaint being not getting his way.I was so touched by this boy, his not understanding of the situation in "Out-With" and the "Fury". His friendship through the fences he had no explanation for, with Shmuel, a name he never heard.In simple words Boyne took me on an emotional trip of horror and love at the same time...
Eigentlich soll dieses Buch ja ein Kinderbuch sein. Oder ein Jugendbuch? Ich bin Mitte 20 und musste meinem Freund ständig vom Geschehen im Buch berichten, weil ich es nicht aushielt. Bruno schildert alles aus kindlich - unschuldiger Sicht. Ein Erwachsener, gerade in der heutigen Zeit, liest Brunos kindlich-naive Erzählung jedoch mit Grauen über das, was in Brunos unnahbarer Nähe geschieht.Dennoch zeigt Bruno, wie viel Hoffnung und wie viel Potential in Kindern steckt - für Frieden und Menschlichkeit....und falls jemand Sorge hat, dieses Buch nicht auf Englisch lesen zu können - es ist sehr gut für Englisch - Einsteiger geeignet. Vermutlich eben auch, weil der Hauptcharakter ein Kind ist und die Sprache entsprechend gehalten ist.
The nine-year-old boy called Bruno moves from his beloved home in Berlin to his new house at "Out-With". Bruno, who loved playing with his friends in Berlin and whose father is a high-ranking officer, likes exploring and, at some day, discovers a young boy called Shmuel who soon becomes his best friend. A friendship which eventually ends in an exploration that leads the reader getting goosebumps.This book could be used interdisciplinarily, together with the subject History. Especially in year four, Nazi-Germany and the Holocaust is a huge issue in History classes. Although the book is not that easy to read, I would recommend it for advanced and eager learners on the edge of A2/B1-level.​
Ich habe das Buch im Original gelesen. Es ist in gut verständlichem Englisch geschrieben. Dass eine solche Geschichte tatsächlich passiert sein könnte, erscheint mir völlig unglaubhaft. Trotzdem hat sie mich fasziniert und ich habe sie schon mehrere Male mit Begeisterung gelesen. Das Ende der Story lässt einen den Atem anhalten. Da geschieht etwas, dass der Leser, der das Buch zum ersten Mal liest und den Film nicht kennt, nicht erwartet hat.
"The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" ist ein Jugendbuch, und das sollte man beim Lesen als Erwachsener nicht vergessen, denn es erklärt einen Teil seiner inhaltlichen Unzulänglichkeiten. Allerdings ist es ein Roman, der beim Leser ein nicht unerhebliches Grundwissen über das Naziregime voraussetzt, um die Anspielungen und Misverständnisse der Hauptfigur Bruno zu verstehen, also erst für ältere Kinder geeignet. Die Idee, ein unschuldiges naives Kind mit den Greueltaten der Nazis zu konfrontieren ist gut, denn der unverbaute Blick verstärkt beim Leser den Horror der geschilderten Ereignisse. Ein riesiges Logikloch klafft jedoch in der Geschichte: Zu glauben, dass der neunjährige Sohn eines hochrangigen SS-Offiziers und KZ-Kommandanten keinerlei Ahnung hat von nazionalsozialistischer Ideologie, führenden Persönlichkeiten (einschließlich des Führers, dessen Titel er als "the Fury" ausspricht) und noch nicht rassistisch indoktriniert wurde, ist wenig glaubhaft, selbst wenn er erst mit zehn Jahren in den Hitlerjugend hätte eintreten müssen, nicht zuletzt da die nazionalsozialistische "Erziehung" bereits in den Kindergärten einsetzte. Auch dass Bruno die Vorgänge bis zum Ende überhaupt nicht versteht, erscheint sehr unwahrscheinlich. Es wäre daher besser gewesen, ihn ein paar Jahre jünger zu machen. Ansonsten ist jedoch die traurige Geschichte von der Freundschaft zweier sehr unterschiedlicher Jungen fesselnd und sehr bewegend. Auf jeden Fall ein lesenswertes Buch!
Ist dies nun ein Jugendbuch? Die Geschichte vom Sohn des KZ Kommandanten und seinem "Freund" im gestreiften Pijamam nimmt einen gefangen, im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes. Die Darstellungsweise hat etwas ungemein Kindliches, ist die Sicht der Jugendlichen, was die Lektüre überhaupt erst erträglich macht. Das grosse Grauen wird nur angedeutet. Ein Buch dem man das Prädikat "schön" geben könnte, wäre da nicht das stete Bewusstsein, es sei alles wahr an der Geschichte. Wunderbar heraus gearbeitet die etwas frivole Mutter, Ehefrau des KOmmandanten und dessen ganzer "Haushalt" am Rande von Auschwitz, mit der Aussicht auf die gestreiften Gefangenen, ebenso die Bediensteten im Hause, die Grosseltern, die "ahnungslos" in Berlin geblieben sind, ebenso wie die folgsamen (gefolgsamen) Offiziere, die ein und aus gehen. Das tragische Ende fühlt sich an wie gerechte Strafe und macht den Leser trotz allem noch trauriger. Für die Generation der "Nachgeborenen" eine Pflichtlektüre!
Bruno wirkt oft sehr weltfremd, da er über die komplette Situation mit den Juden so gar nichts weiß. Das hat ihn für mich aber so sympatisch gemacht und hat das "unschuldige Kind" in den Vordergrund gerückt. Ohne etwas Böses zu wollen geht er durch die Welt und denkt, dass es jedem Menschen so geht wie ihm. Als er dann auf Shmuel trifft, zeigt sich, wie unterschiedlich zwei 9-jährige sein können. Der eine hat schon viel erlebt, der andere ist etwas naiv. Die Freundschaft zwischen den beiden, hat mir das Herz erwärmt. Ich habe sie richtig liebgewonnen.Ob die ganze Geschichte nun richtig recherchiert ist oder nicht, war mir egal. Die Story hat mich mitgerissen (gerade auf den letzten Seiten). Da hatte ich einen dicken Kloß zu Schlucken.
